Wednesday weather: Rainy start brings slick roads, crashes across metro Atlanta

Date:

A steady round of rain moved through metro Atlanta early Wednesday, creating slick roads and a challenging morning commute, but the FOX 5 Storm Team says the system is not expected to bring severe weather to the area.

The rain was widespread across North and Central Georgia at 5 a.m., with some heavier pockets moving through parts of Paulding, Douglas and Fulton counties, and tracking toward areas like Barnesville and Griffin. While some thunder is possible, the system is largely producing beneficial rainfall that the region has needed.

The rain is expected to taper off around or shortly after sunrise, with conditions improving into a partly cloudy, breezy and mild afternoon.

Traffic conditions, however, have already been impacted. A crash along the east side of Interstate 285 southbound near LaVista Road temporarily blocked a left lane, causing delays stretching back toward Chamblee Tucker Road. Another crash was reported on I-75 southbound near Jonesboro Road.

Live reports from Midtown Atlanta showed rain picking up in intensity, with ponding on roadways creating hazardous driving conditions. Officials warn the wet roads could lead to more दुर्घ accidents as the morning commute continues.

Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time and be prepared for reduced visibility and slick conditions. Follow SKYFOX Traffic on X for the latest.

Meanwhile, the rain system is expected to bring additional chances for precipitation later in the week, along with changing temperatures heading into May.
