Cong starts groundwork for 2027 assembly polls in UP

Lucknow: A series of preparatory meetings were held at the UP Congress headquarters on Wednesday as the party stepped up its organisational exercise ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The meetings were chaired by UP Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, who first met state Congress president Ajay Rai before holding separate discussions with the party’s treasurer and accounts department, office-bearers of the war room and connect centre, heads of frontal organisations, presidents of various departments and cells, and AICC secretaries in charge of UP.According to an official spokesperson, Gautam reviewed organisational preparedness and asked office-bearers to strengthen the party at the grassroots and shift into “election mode” in preparation for the assembly polls.Addressing party functionaries, Gautam claimed that the Congress was witnessing growing public support owing to Rahul Gandhi’s campaigns on issues concerning students, youth, unemployed persons, women, Dalits, OBCs, minorities and farmers. He urged party workers to intensify their outreach on public issues and highlight what he described as the BJP govt’s failures.Referring to the alleged Ram temple donation embezzlement case, Gautam asked party functionaries to raise the issue aggressively and target the BJP and RSS over the alleged irregularities. He also alleged a deterioration in the state’s law and order situation.Expressing confidence about the party’s prospects, Gautam said the Congress would register a “historic victory” in the 2027 assembly elections.
