And if you still doubt that, just ask the President of the United States—because Donald Trump apparently believes it enough to halt an Oval Office meeting for a full-blown shoe inspection. JD Vance found this out firsthand, as did another poor politician with notably tiny feet, when a serious discussion suddenly turned into Trump critiquing everyone’s footwear like it was the most urgent matter in Washington.At a December 5 event honoring Sylvester Stallone, Vance recounted a moment in the Oval Office that sent the crowd into fits of laughter. As he described it, “Today I’m in the Oval Office with the President and Marco Rubio, and we’re talking about something really important. The President kind of holds up his hand and says, ‘no, no, no, hold on a second. There’s something much more important. Shoes.’”
According to Vance, Trump barely hesitated before zeroing in on the footwear in the room. “He peers over the resolute desk and he says, Marco, JD, you guys have sh*tty shoes.”What happened next was even more surreal. Vance said, “He goes out and grabs a catalog. There happens to be another politician in the room I won’t say who, and you’ll find out why in a second. And he actually runs us through this incredible shoe catalog. The President is gifting us with four pairs of shoes.”Trump then turned the Oval Office into a full-blown sizing session. “He says, Marco, what’s your shoe size? And Marco’s apparently an eleven and a half. He says, JD, what’s your shoe size? My shoe size is 13. I asked this politician, who I won’t embarrass, what his shoe size is, and he says, seven. The President leans back in his chair and says, you know you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size.”Once the clip hit social media, the internet didn’t just react—it erupted.
