Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, one of the top international prospects in the 2026 class, has committed to the Duke Blue Devils, he announced on Thursday morning.
The 7-footer out of FC Barcelona (Spain) rates as a five-star recruit in the class and will have two years to play college basketball before becoming NBA Draft Eligible.
The 16-year old averaged 16.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks in 23.0 minutes per game this season playing in Liga U.
Boumtje Boumtje is a highly talented big man with a high long-term upside. He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is the son of former NBA player Ruben Boumtje Boumtje.
The younger Boumtje Boumtje brings great size, length and skill to Duke’s frontcourt and will compete with five-star Cam Williams and four-star transfer Drew Scharnowski for the starting four position in Durham, North Carolina.
With Boumtje Boumtje’s size and positional versatility, he will also have the ability to fill in at the five along with Scharnowski behind star big man Patrick Ngongba.
At 7 foot, Boumtje Boumtje is a highly intriguing talent who can step out and make shots from 3, face up and score off the dribble and move his feet around the perimeter on defense.
While he is young, Duke now holds the most talented roster in the country. But developing both Williams and Boumtje for the high-major ranks will be imperative this preseason.
With teams continuing to get bigger, stronger and more physical in the front court, both star forwards will have to develop in the weight room, get stronger and adapt to this era of college basketball.
With Ngongba, Dame Sarr, Cayden Boozer and Caleb Foster returning and John Blackwell, Deron Rippey Jr., Bryson Howard, Scharnowski, Williams and now Boumtje incoming, the Blue Devils have a loaded and deep roster for the 2026-27 season.
