T’puram: Neyyattinkara police on Wednesday arrested a 44-year-old woman for allegedly cheating vehicle buyers by taking bank loans in their names even after they paid the full price of their vehicles. The accused, Sumakumari of Pallichal, was arrested after a vehicle owner complained about an unauthorized loan linked to his purchase. Police said she allegedly forged loan papers for customers who bought vehicles from a Neyyattinkara showroom by paying the entire amount.Police said she tampered with registration certificate records by erasing details of the financing bank, making owners unaware that their vehicles had been hypothecated. She also allegedly substituted owners’ mobile numbers in RC-related documents with her own number, ensuring loan alerts and messages reached her.Police said when EMIs were debited from customers’ accounts after missed payments, she transferred equal amounts back to avoid suspicion. The fraud surfaced when one owner noticed suspicious transactions and approached police. Officers are checking records to identify more victims and ascertain the extent of cheating.
